1. Sample production / Qualification testing / Zero series production
In the case of the FRIGATE chair family , we used a conventional plywood press mold during the prototyping stage, which enabled economically viable experimentation. This allowed for greater design freedom at a lower initial investment than aluminium tooling. Once the final geometry was validated, the aluminium tool could be safely manufactured based on the plywood reference, ensuring durability for mass production and an exceptionally low scrap ratio.
This iterative process — from design through prototype to zero-series production — helps identify and resolve potential issues early. Qualification testing plays a critical role at this stage, offering insight into how labour-intensive and scalable the product will be. Even in low-pace production runs, we analyse which efficiency factors need refinement for industrial scalability.
At Licit, these early stages are a strategic foundation: they ensure the product’s long-term economic viability and minimise risk before larger-scale investment.
